What is Rockabilly? It can be described now was a combination of country, rock n' roll, rhythm, and blues. It started gaining popularity in the 1950's. At the time, the music transcended genre. It was most commonly found in the South. It helped shaped the counterculture movement in the 50's, as it was commonly described to catch the essence of freedom, youth rebellion, and individuality.
History of Rockabilly
Characteristics of Rockabilly music:
1. Upbeat blues chord progression: It was often had more energy, lead guitarists would
use heavy twangs, and the upright bass would use a slapping technique rather than
plucked notes.
2. Echo, delay, and reverb
3. Deep, heated vocals: Many Rockabilly artists would prefer to use a deep, heated voice
to distinguish their music. Others were more eccentric, adding in vocal tics to
try and make it sound more interesting.
